A14 between junctions 51 (Beacon Hill) and 47 (Woolpit) – resurfacing, drainage and safety barrier replacement

Maintenance work on the A14 is continuing. The next phase includes resurfacing, drainage improvements and safety barrier replacement on the A14 westbound between junctions 51 (Beacon Hill) and junction 47 (Woolpit).

This work is part of a bigger project on the A14 between junctions 47 and 55 (Copdock Interchange). We’ll share details of any future closures and diversions as soon as they’re confirmed.

We plan to complete this phase of works over four weeks starting from Monday 20 April 2026. We will work overnight between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A14 westbound between junctions 51 (Beacon Hill) and 47 (Woolpit) and divert traffic as detailed below:

  • Road users travelling westbound on the A14 should leave the A14 at junction 51.
  • At junction 51, join the A140 northbound.
  • Continue on the A140 to the A140/A143 roundabout.
  • At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A143, following signs for Bury St Edmunds.
  • Stay on the A143 and join Compiegne Way.
  • Follow Compiegne Way to A14 junction 43 (St Saviours interchange).
  • From here, road users can rejoin the A14 and continue eastbound or westbound.

Please see a map of the diversion.
